The Verde Island Passage was designated a "Hope Spot" in 2023 by Mission Blue, recognizing it as one of the most biodiverse marine areas on the planet. It is home to over 300 species of coral and 60% of the world's known shore fish species, making it a critical hotspot for marine life. However, this rich ecosystem is under pressure from heavy boat traffic, commercial fishing, and tourism. The "Hope Spot" designation is meant to inspire conservation efforts to ensure this underwater paradise remains intact for generations to come.
