The Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. This course builds on what you've learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving.

Get credit! Each Adventure Dive may credit toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver Course. If you’ve already taken a specialty diver course, ask your instructor if you’ve earned credit for an Adventure Dive.

Requirements

 Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to step up and enroll in an Advanced Open Water Diver course. Young divers may only participate in certain Adventures Dives – contact Denny’s Scuba Adventures for more information.

If you already hold a PADI Adventure Diver certification, you only need to complete two more Adventure Dives to earn the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

​The Learning

You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives. You may choose from these dives: Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Wreck, Underwater Photography, Enriched Air, Fish Identification, Underwater Naturalist and many others. During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving - 60 to 100 feet. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.

​The other knowledge and skills you get vary with your interest and the adventures you have – photography, buoyancy control, night diving, exploring wrecks, search and recovery, delayed surface marker buoy and more.

​Important Medical Form

 All student divers are required to complete the Diver Medical Form. Read the form carefully and answer questions honestly. If you can answer "Yes" to question 3, 5, or 10, OR any question on page 2, then you are required to obtain a physician's release on this form, without restrictions, before participating in any Adventure Dives.

 The Gear

Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and dive knife or dive tool. You’ll also use specialized gear depending on the Adventure Dives you choose. For example, you’d obviously use a digital underwater camera for the Photography Adventure Dive or a unique weight configuration during the Buoyancy Adventure Dive. Your Instructor will explain the equipment that you need and may suggest additional gear, such as additional dive lights for night diving or lift bag for search and recovery diving.
